Oswego County Garage Supervisor in Oswego, New York
The Oswego County Solid Waste Department has an immediate opening for a Garage Supervisor responsible for planning and supervising the maintenance, repair and overhaul of a large quantity of gasoline and diesel-powered, self propelled and non-self propelled motor driven equipment, vehicles, trucks, heavy construction equipment and stationary equipment used in the Department of Solid Waste. The incumbent also establishes a preventative maintenance schedule and tracks inventory. The work is carried out under general direction of a higher level supervisor with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is exercised over the activities of equipment operators, equipment mechanics and laborers by a continuing check of the work in progress. As the workload in the department fluctuates, incumbent will be required to be hands on and assist the workforce in repairs to maintain departmental functions; does related work as required.Qualifications: Associate’s degree or certificate in automotive repair technology and three (3) years of experience as a skilled automotive mechanic which involved the repair and overhaul of automotive diesel engines and heavy motor equipment, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; OR Five (5) years of experience as noted above, one (1) year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license appropriate to the vehicles operated at time of appointment. Maintenance of license required throughout the course of employment. Possession of a vehicle inspection license for automotive and Heavy equipment.
