Kimley-Horn Senior Substation Physical Engineer in Orlando, Florida
Overview
Kimley-Horn's Orlando, FL office is seeking a Substation Physical Engineering with 6+ years of experience to join our diverse and fast paced organization. This is not a remote position.
Responsibilities
Perform conceptual and detailed HV and MV Substation Physical/Electrical design for utilities/substations (including basic layout, electrical arrangement, one line, three-line drawings, plan-section, grounding, AC and DC system drawings)
Perform engineering studies and calculations including:
Conduit fill
Bus
Grounding
Lightning Protection
Illumination
Facility Ratings (FAC)
Assume the role of technical lead on projects with limited guidance
Create and review bill of materials for substation physical projects
Assist with developing and implementing policies, processes, procedures, standards, and technical guidance, as required, to continually improve the engineering capability within the practice
Plan and lead client meetings (or meeting sections) relating to physical design, as required
Support the preparation of project proposals and tender presentations
Perform Quality Control reviews on substation physical packages
Provide support for continued professional development of less experienced engineers in team, including technical guidance, and recommending training needs to the group
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited engineering program
Holds an active PE license in the United States
Enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects
Proficient with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
6+ years of direct substation physical design experience.
Experience with grounding studies/lightning protection and lighting studies
Working knowledge of protection and control design
Experience with bus calculations
Experience with WinIGS or CDEGS
