Scope of Position: Provide operational leadership in the manufacture of products for the Corning’s Life Science business at the Oneonta plant. In this position you will lead the activities of production teams to support the objectives of the plant by developing and implementing plans to provide a safe work environment, manufacture quality products, and maximize the efficiency and output of operations.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Lead 24-hour shift production operations
Report directly to Plant Operations Manager
Direct reports consist of production shift supervisors (team leaders)
Coordinate resources to meet output, select, and uptime goals
Ensure compliance to Plant and Corporate rules and expectations including Plant Policies, Procedures, Safety and housekeeping, Quality Systems, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems and production goals
Will be a key operational role in driving safety for the department
Drive process control and process discipline (PCPD) and basics of manufacturing (BOM) in the department including the in-house supervisor’s curriculum for shift supervisors
Emphasize the development of shift supervisors and hourly employees providing effective coaching and constructive feedback
Determine programs and projects to improve productivity and cost reduction
Monitor repair and maintenance spending for the department and lead cost reduction initiatives
Ensure appropriate levels of troubleshooting steps are taken based on process feedback, checklists, control charts, key attributes and other performance indicators
Collaborate with plant engineering to to recommend and implement technical solutions to resolve chronic equipment and process issues
Identify and communicate performance opportunities, objective shortfalls and resource requirements
Attend daily department production meetings and provide updates on equipment and operational performance
Submit monthly reports that accurately summarize performance
Travel Requirements: <5%
Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Typically 7-4, but some off hours support required
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree Required
BS or MS in Ceramic, Chemical, Material, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
Required Skills:
Minimum of three years of previous operational leadership experience or equivalent technical or engineering experience
Experience working on technical problems or teams with technicians
Prior budget responsibility
Experience with Six Sigma DMAIC principles
Desired Skills:
Experience working with a Union workforce
Experience in a manufacturing environment
Experience overseeing safety initiatives and conducting operational risk management

The range for this position is $118,428.00 - $162,839.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
