A Brief Overview

Assists professional anesthesia staff by restocking supplies, cleaning, and maintaining work areas, decontaminating reusable supplies, and taking regular inventory of anesthesia supplies.

Essential Functions

  • Assists with the setup and cleanup of Anesthesia area in all anesthetizing location • Place clean circuit on machine at the beginning of each day and after a case is completed • Prepares invasive hemodynamic monitoring lines using sterile technique • Ensure anesthetic agents, supplies and other applicable items are available for the days' cases and expiration dates checked • Terminally clean anesthesia machines daily to ensure a clean environment • Ensure reusable equipment is clean. (e.g., monitoring cables) • Knowledgeable in the location and ability to change O2 tanks when empty • Ensure all cables, cuffs and lines attached to the anesthesia machine are available • Ensure suction system and supplies are available • Clean Medication Carts daily to ensure a clean environment. • Ensure sharps containers are changed when appropriate fill levels are met. • Dispose of contaminated materials in accordance with infection control policy. • Assists with emergencies/code situations • Obtains blood specimens by utilizing standardized capillary or venipuncture procedures as ordered in the Intraop Phase of Care • Performs point-of-care testing including documentation of quality control testing and troubleshooting as required to ensure proper instrument function and assure accurate patient results. (e.g., EPOC, Glucose)

  • Maintains availability and working status of all Anesthesia related instruments, equipment, specialty carts, and supplies (e.g., Malignant Hyperthermia Cart, Difficult Airway Cart, Regional Anesthesia/Block Cart) • Ensure carts are stocked with necessary supplies, equipment and/or instrumentation • Cart has been checked for outdates • Know location of specialty items and its availability when needed • Place intubating scope in appropriate container prior to sending to Sterile Processing

  • Maintains inventories in all anesthetizing locations and supply locations • Demonstrates ability to identify supplies by name to ensure accuracy in stocking of supplies. • Monitor’s inventory of anesthesia supply, orders supply, and works with leader to adjust par levels as appropriate • Understands the importance of monitoring expiration dating by performing outdates and rotating stock. • Ensure that all anesthetizing locations are stocked and prepared for all cases. • Check in/restock supplies ordered and place in appropriate location for storage.

  • Responds to needs of Anesthesiology physicians and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA's) throughout the day. • Available to respond to requests during cases, answers calls in a timely manner. • Available to clean rooms to ensure a timely turnover between cases. • Provide assistance while recognizing practice limitations

  • Precepts new employees • Demonstrates proper use and care of equipment and supplies. • Provides “hands-on” experience with all pieces of equipment and instrumentation. • Teaches department standards for performance, patient care, safety, and service. • Assists with appropriate documentation of orientation program via skills checklist

  • Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Experience Qualifications

  • Hospital experience with Surgical or Anesthesia equipment Preferred and

  • Phlebotomy experience Preferred

Licenses and Certifications

  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Required and

  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant Preferred

  • On call requirements, including but not limited to weekdays, weekends, and holidays Required
