The Washington Iron Works, Inc. painter brings his/her expertise and knowledge in the industrial painting field to prep and prime structural steel projects. The painter removes rust and other contaminants from the steel assemblies first then consistently applies the specified primer.

Responsibilities
- Maintenance of all applicable equipment.
- Evaluate surface preparation to assure compliance to SSPC Codes.
- Apply primer to achieve the dry mils required by the job specifications.
- Knowledge of different types of coatings and application methods.
- Use of forklifts, grinders, sanders, and overhead cranes.
- Follow instructions from the supervisor regarding cleaning, proper painting procedures, and other tasks.
- Reading assembly numbers.
- Need to know (or learn) SSPC Codes.
- Keeps work area organized, clean and professional.
- Perform other routine duties per management direction.
- Must adhere to and follow all safety rules and PPE requirements.
- Able to operate a forklift safely
Education/Training/Work Experience
- Experience preferred; however, we are willing to train the right individual.
Knowledge
- Equipment Knowledge & Skills --may include but not limited to, using paint sprayers, grinders, overhead cranes, and hand tools.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as operation and maintenance instructions, procedures, and filling out daily paint logs.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None.
