Charter Care Health Partners Phlebotomist (SW) - SJH in North Providence, Rhode Island

Summary: Performs a variety of clerical duties in connection with preparing, compiling and maintaining patient and hospital records in a satellite laboratory. Coordinates activities related to phlebotomy such as scheduling patients tests as ordered by physician. Performs other clerical and accommodative services to assist the laboratory staff. Transcribes physician’s orders onto transmittals. Prepares requisitions/transmittals ordering laboratory tests requested by the physician. Registers patients and orders testing using appropriate computer programs when applicable. Is proficient in all phlebotomy skills. Is well versed in tools and supplies used in phlebotomy. Regularly performs functions of laboratory assistant.

Education: H igh school diploma or GED with education in Phlebotomy required.

Licensure: Phlebotomy certification required. Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record is preferred.

Experience: Three to six months experience as a Phlebotomist.

Skills and Abilities: Ability to work cooperatively with peers and other disciplines. Demonstrated customer service skill. Ability to utilize sound interpersonal skills when interacting with patients and taking into consideration cultural background, linguistic skills and age of customers. Ability to read, write and communicate in English, required. Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with peers/other departments. Ability to work independently and identify tasks that need to be completed. Knowledge of Medical terminology preferred. Demonstrates Phlebotomy skills and specimen packaging and handling. Maintains confidentiality of Protected Health Information. Demonstrated customer service skills.

Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements : Visual acuity and hand dexterity. Physical ability involves a variety of body movements including stooping, bending, kneeling, lifting, standing, walking, climbing, twisting, stretching, and reaching. Physical ability involves pushing, pulling and lifting more than 50 lbs. Traveling to off-site locations to collect specimens.
