Job Description

AbbVie Process Chemistry is responsible for inventing and characterizing chemical processes and supporting the preparation of drug substances to enable toxicology studies, clinical trials, and drug product development for AbbVie’s pre-clinical and clinical candidates. We contribute to the development of innovative chemistry solutions and new process technology, resulting in the development of safe, sustainable, and cost-effective manufacturing processes. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with experience in process chemistry and/or the development of antibody-drug conjugate drug substances.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of conjugation chemistry processes in the lab and participate on project teams to support projects from pre-clinical stages through our clinical studies. Project teams interactions will include productive collaboration and strong communications with allied functions across analytical, engineering, small molecule drug linker synthesis, regulatory, quality and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing and characterizing antibody-drug conjugate (and other modalities) processes in the laboratory and translating them to scalable processes, with direction from or interaction with supervisor.

  • The position involves multi-disciplinary interactions with organic chemists, analytical chemists, engineers, drug product development, and program management.

  • Demonstrate the ability to resolve key project hurdles and assumptions by effectively utilizing available information and technical expertise.

  • Proactively seek out new information in the literature and demonstrate application on individual project(s) as well as the overall program.

  • May initiate new areas of investigation that are scientifically meaningful, reliable, and can be incorporated directly into a research or development program.

  • Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, and GxP compliance.

Qualifications

  • MS degree in chemistry with 2+ years of laboratory experience or BS degree in chemistry with 5+ years laboratory experience.

  • A broad range of functional expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry, compound purification, spectral analysis and interpretation.

  • An ability to search the chemical literature and evaluate potential solutions to synthetic problems.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience performing process development, new reaction characterization and study of reaction mechanism.

  • Experience in antibody-drug conjugate process development is beneficial.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
