Boeing Commercial Airplanes is hiring for Senior Structures Design Engineers to work at our North Charleston, SC location.

The 787 Aft Body Structures Life Cycle Product Team ( LCPT ) day to day activities include performing structural design and production while interfacing with production, supply chain, and other functions on engineering technical questions.

The team leads change coordination, cost-down initiatives, rate enabler design changes and improvement and resolution to service-related issues for safety and reliability within each volume.

As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of aircraft and sub-system structural designs and collaborate with leaders in throughout the organization to pave the way in creating a well-integrated and optimized design.

Senior Structures Design Ebgineer (Level 4), position responsibilities include the following :

  • Develop, integrate, and document structural requirements to establish the system design.

  • Develop, maintain, and modify structural and component designs, using 3-D Computer Aided Design tools and/or other design methods, to provide product definition to other engineering groups, production operations, suppliers, and external customers throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Develop a general understanding of pertinent FAA regulations and Boeing requirements to determine appropriate paths to compliance of new or non-compliant designs.

  • Lead performance, integration, and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications.

  • Manage supplier development, test, and production activities and coordinates with the supplier to optimize the design and achieve program goals.

  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical expertise and recommendations to optimize designs and resolve any issues or challenges.

  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and investigate their potential to develop concepts for future product designs that meet projected requirements.

  • Work under minimal direction.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor’s of Science or higher from an accredited course of study. Engineering is preferred.

  • 7+ years of experience in Structural Composite design and configuration.

  • 3+ years of related work experience and/or combination of additional education with CAD modeling/ Model Based Definition tools such as CATIA, ENOVIA, and/or Composite Workbench.

  • Ability to support occasional domestic and international travel to support our customers (up to 20% of the time).

  • 2+ years’ experience or related work experience and/or combination in design and testing in accordance with FAA title 14 CFR 25.

  • Knowledge of Project/Program Management Best Practices such as establishing and maintaining deadlines, risk identification and mitigation, ability to communicate within all levels of leadership, internal and external customers, as well as across organizations.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in one of the following engineering majors: Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Civil, and select Structures degrees.

  • Experience functioning as a Design Approval Engineer (DAE).

  • 2+ years of related work experience and/or combination of additional education using Model Based Definition (MBD) tools such as Composite Workbench.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Ability to quickly adapt to program tools and procedures.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to provide product definition and technical support across the value stream.

Typical Education/Experience:

Education from an accredited course of study and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience must be in an engineering classification.

Bachelor of Science and typically 9+ years' experience, or Master of Science and typically 7+ years' experience, or a Doctorate of Science and typically 4+years’ of experience.

ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Salary:

$113,700 - $153,500
