Responsibilities Compiles, analyzes, and summarizes survey, inventory, and monitoring data for input into reports. Conduct field surveys to inventory and monitor the status and condition of wildlife/aquatic and plant species and their habitats. Examines and considers complex interrelationships with designs to repair and improve landscape conditions Provides water quality, and quantity data for watershed analyses, and other planning documents. Provides input and assists other Field Office staff with the preparation of similar documents. Collects basic water quality parameters. Maintains equipment and data loggers, advises all specialists of the water quality. Implements riparian and water monitoring projects. Assists with the implementation and monitoring of management plans. Works on activities designed for the recovery of federally listed species and their habitats. Assists the forest planning and timber sale preparation teams. Assists with the layout and marking of timber harvest boundaries, marking trees for harvest or retention, collecting monitoring data for various program leads pre and post-harvest, checking stand exam plots. Assists leads with duties such as contract administration, cruising, or engineering. Coordinates with interested parties in inventory and study efforts to meet specific goals established through the land use planning process. Assists with restoration projects that involve site stabilization and revegetation both at site specific locations and on the broader landscape scale. Inventories, treats, and monitors invasive weeds. Proposes, develops, and implements projects to control invasive weed species. Collects, compiles, updates, analyzes, and displays GIS data for input into planning documents. No assumptions will be made about your experience. GS-05:Basic Requirement for Natural Resources Specialist (0401):A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify at the GS-07/ level you must also meet one of the qualification requirements listed below: GS-07: one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service. At this level the incumbent applies basic concepts, principles, and methodologies of the field. Examples include: compiling biological reports for review by higher graded specialist, analyzing environmental impacts, protecting environmental resources. - OR - One year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education DIRECTLY related to the work of the position - OR - A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement that included coursework DIRECTLY related to the work of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Physical Demands/Work Environments: Work requires some physical exertion such as bending and walking/hiking in terrain that is rough, rocky, mountainous and densely vegetated that may also be steep, wet and muddy. Required to lift and carry equipment necessary to perform the work of the position, this includes tools, personal protective equipment, food and water for extended periods away from a vehicle. Work while in the office is performed in adequately lighted, ventilated, cooled and heated area. Fieldwork is subject to cuts and bruises, extreme and adverse weather conditions and injuries and discomforts from pests and animals. Graduate education or an internship meets the specialized experience required above GS-5 only in those instances where it is directly related to the work of the position.
