The XBox Experiences and Platform Commerce (XPC) team is responsible for ensuring publishers have low friction access to our ecosystem, rich insights into the publishing experience, and a world class platform to provide their content to Gamers around the world.  We work closely with partner teams across Xbox, as well as both internal and external game studios to further these goals.  We’re always striving to find new and innovative ways of incorporating the latest in design patterns, cloud tech, and machine learning to create better experiences – all while maintaining very high availability services and experiences and ensuring the safety and security of our customers’ data. 

Responsibilities

Our team works primarily on high scale, high availability services and experiences that power both publisher and gamer facing interactions.  The team also works closely with various partner teams inside of Xbox to deliver comprehensive solutions.  . Expect to leverage industry leading standards including TypeScript, REACT/REDUX, C#, C++ and other cutting-edge technology. Our software experiences are highly service driven, so some level of back-end co-development is a possibility, as well.  As a Principal Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the following: 

  • Driving the strategy, vision, and execution for the team in collaboration with Product management team.

  • Lead team through design, architecture and execution of core services.

  • Lead the definition of requirements, key performance indicator (KPIs), priorities and planning of engineering deliverables. 

  • Innovate and make service deployment and maintenance an efficient well-oiled machine that provides excellent reliability with minimal manual engineer intervention.

  • Coach team leaders and engineers within the team, grow the energetic, diverse, and high energy team, senior managers and ICs.

  • Actively shape and drive a flexible, diverse, and inclusive culture where everyone is enabled to be at their best.

  • We are looking for someone who shares our passion for building great software for enterprises. You will work in a forward-looking product as part of an agile, collaborative, and cross-discipline team.

Qualifications

Expertise/Experience 

  • 10+ years of relevant software development experience

  • 4+ years of people management experience

  • Experience coding and/or leading teams doing software development in modern relevant languages and technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript, React/Redux, C#, C/C++, Python, etc.)

  • Solid understanding of Object-Oriented Programming and common Design Patterns 

  • Ability to communicate technical details clearly across organizational boundaries.

  • Experience in DevOps to maintain live services and\or application frameworks.

  • Analytical skills with systematic and structured approach to software design.

  • Passion for building highly scalable, highly reliable services.

  • Experience with or exposure to Agile and iterative development processes.

  • Collaborating with technical partners to deliver end-to-end solutions 

  • Ability to quickly ramp up on multiple technology areas  

Interpersonal skills 

  • Confident and articulate in expressing ideas to a mixed audience with varying views and challenges 

  • Cultural sensitivity and a proven ability to work with teams and partners across multiple geographies. 

  • A sense of personal ownership is required, together with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines while managing internal stakeholder expectations 

  • Self-motivated and organized to deliver results
