Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Lead Sterile Processing Technician!

As a Lead Sterle Processing Tech at MercyOne, you will schedule, organize, and provide work direction to meet the production goals of the department. Assures policy and procedures are maintained according to established guidelines. Serves as liaison and resource for staff and customers regarding sterilization, processing of surgical instruments, and sterile instrument storage. This is a working Team Lead position.

  • Full Time

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Continuously audits inventory activity and initiates appropriate inventory adjustments in a timely manner.

  • Assists in maintaining inventory to maximize space utilization.

  • Demonstrates product knowledge and expertise to act as a resource for clinical staff and other related departments.

  • Conducts training and in-service sessions for employees in assigned work areas on OSHA, Joint Commission, and Fire & Safety requirements.

  • Effectively coordinates schedules to ensure adequate coverage of the department.

  • Competency in Processing Instruments, Supplies, Equipment, and Assembling Trays and Case Carts.

  • Perform random quality assurance inspections of instrument sets, case carts, etc.

  • Ensures instrument sets are complete prior to sterilization and records any missing items not replaced in the sets.

  • Understands the basic use of surgical instrumentation.

  • Keeps an accurate log of all doctors' instruments processed and returned to Sterile Processing.

  • Ensures staff follows cleaning procedures according to manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Maintains an established inventory of supplies and instruments.

  • Ensures staff stocks supplies in proper order (FIFO).

  • Assembles no fewer than 35-40 instrument sets per day.

  • Demonstrates complete knowledge in identifying surgical instruments.

  • Able to teach and assist in training CS employees.

Education:

  • Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Central Supply Technician with certification.

Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in the Central Supply area or Operating Room.

Qualifications:

  • If RN or LPN: Current licensure in the State of Iowa.

  • If Central Supply Technician: Certification from CSSPD or IAHCSMM.
