Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Staff Assistant for NJMS- Neurosurgery. This position provides administrative assistance to surgeon in accordance with the mission statement of the Department of Neurological Surgery. Duties include coordination of administrative tasks, scheduling, and coordination of patient care issues.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Responsible for providing administrative, analytical, computing and staff support for University Physician Associates Neurological Surgery.
  • Executes assignments and tasks requiring data collection, information gathering, analysis, data entry/retrieval, data base maintenance, and forms and graphics generation utilizing a variety of software packages.
  • Provide assistance in delivering patient care at the direction of assigned attending.
  • Assist maintaining the department's workload ensuring effective use of manpower and resources to assist in the smooth running of the department.
  • Acts as the focal point of communication for the assigned Attending and his/her team, confidentiality being the key issue at all times. In undertaking the role of staff assistant, the post holder will be required to initiate their own tasks and prioritize work.
  • Utilizes specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures, and otolaryngology billing for optimal reimbursement and is familiar with insurance rules, billing practices, and hospital or laboratory procedures.
  • Duties may include scheduling appointments, assisting the physician in coding for patient billing, and compiling and recording medical charts, reports, and correspondence.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or a related field plus three (3) years of progressively more responsible related professional and /or administrative experience in either the public or private sector, required.
  • Equivalent education, experience, and/or training may be substituted for the education requirements.
