Job Description

An exciting opportunity to join our team as a Microbiologist II in Newark, DE is available! In this position, you will perform microbiological evaluation of environmental swabs, raw material, intermediate, process, and finished products to ensure product meets customer specification, GMP, and consumer safety standards. You will make risk analysis and usage decision of non-conformances, generate test result documentation, and provide technical assistance for internal and external customers.

Technical/Functional

  • Perform testing associated with the QC chemistry lab;

  • Microbiology Laboratory responsibilities: Accurately and consistently perform USP Micro-bial Limits testing of raw materials, in-process samples, environmental samples, and fin-ished product;

  • Prepare and qualify media;

  • Assist in test method validation;

  • Assist in equipment qualification;

  • Write Laboratory Investigations and assist in writing Quality Investigations when necessary;

  • Collect and test pretreatment (water building), purified water samples (Colloidal 1 & 2), other locations as procedurally required;

  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration procedures on laboratory equipment;

  • Provide support for laboratory investigations and customer complaints;

  • Maintain sufficient levels of inventory of basic chemical reagents and media in the lab;

  • Perform environmental monitoring of plant, packaging areas and certain laboratory areas as procedurally required;

  • Report results via LIMS and communicate test results and pertinent information to appropri-ate persons;

  • Sample finished product containers or raw material containers

  • Deliver isolates for identification to Accugenix;

  • Perform daily and weekly laboratory cleaning;

  • Conduct calibrations and maintain records for the lab calibration program;

  • Provide general lab support by maintaining samples and consumable supplies and follow up on maintenance work orders;

  • Investigate and make recommendations with respect to plant investigations;

  • Participate in the training of new analysts. Provide training support for entry level analysts as necessary;

  • Perform instrument troubleshooting;

  • Must be able to adapt to changing requirements in the lab;

  • This position requires weekend work.

  • May require support for analytical lab and perform functions of the QC analyst as neces-sary;

Job Requirements

Education / Experience

  • B.S. Degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Food Science or equivalent experience

  • 2-5 years experience in a microbiology laboratory

  • Experience with basic laboratory equipment testing procedures

  • Experience with microbiology protocols and biohazards
