The anticipated salary range for this role is between $150,000.00 and $185,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

Role Description

SMBC Capital Markets is an interest rates derivatives trading company based in New York City, with offices in London and Hong Kong. We are a subsidiary of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), one of the leading global banks in Japan.

Our Capital Markets business is an established derivatives dealer with a broad product portfolio, with specific emphasis on interest rates and foreign exchange.  We have been in operation for more than 30 years and is a leading market-maker in several markets.

The Trading group in Capital Markets is seeking a highly motivated candidate to work on an interest rate derivative trading floor. This position provides you a unique opportunity to learn the aspects of our trading business. Given the small size of the trading group, you will be working on a wide range of responsibilities.

Role Objectives

  • The role is part of the trading group and coverage includes products in all major currencies.

  • This is a challenging role in which a motivated joiner will be able to contribute within a few days.

  • Assist traders in performing market analysis and analyze trading strategies.

  • Booking of all of OTC and exchanged traded derivative trades into Capital Markets Front Office systems and ensuring completeness and accuracy of all booking.

  • Capital Markets has a significantly sized option book that the joiner might support in daily risk and PnL (Profit & Loss) reconciliation and create EOD reports for traders.

  • Monitor daily curve (rates, FX basis and tenor basis curves) and volatility (cap and swaption) calibration to ensure EOD books are marked correctly.

  • Run daily stress tests for the options desk and send out daily reports summarizing the results, along with market commentary.

  • Work with middle and back office groups to resolve any portfolio discrepancies and making improvements to daily processes.

  • Sending relevant daily reports to Senior Management on the daily risk and p&l of the derivatives portfolio.

  • Be involved in multiple projects concerned with new product types, system enhancement, audit support etc.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance / Economics / Math / Engineering, or a related area required.

  • Master’s degree in finance / Economics / Math / Engineering, or a related area required.

  • Ideal candidate has 2-5 years’ experience working in a trade support related role, ideally in the derivates space.

  • Strong analytical background and desire to learn more about financial markets in general.

  • Programming knowledge in Python, Visual Basic (VBA) is a good addition.
