The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

This laboratory performs research in the central nervous system control of feeding and glucose metabolism. The Technician B will perform basic biochemical, anatomical and molecular analyses, including hands-on bench experimentation in cell culture, animal care and research, to provide experimental support for ongoing projects. The candidate will thoroughly document all results and technical reports of studies, as well as assist with data analysis to support the development of standard operating procedures and guidelines.

Responsibilities

[95%] General research support:

* Provide general research support. Duties include preparing solutions, setting up and calibrating equipment, carrying out fully-planned experiments, collecting samples, and keeping records of results.
* Perform other duties necessary to the functioning of the lab, such as inventory, ordering supplies, renewing equipment contracts, and lab set up.

[5%] Miscellaneous Support:

  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.
  • May be required to do lab materials inventory and place orders through ARC from approved vendors as instructed by his/her/their supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • The candidate must demonstrate attention to detail, ability to work independently when required, and good interpersonal communication skills.
  • It will be necessary to work late, on occasion, to complete experiments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to work well with a team as well as independently.
  • Effective communication/presentation skills.
  • Ability to establish realistic and achievable priorities to achieve Institute goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates ability to be innovative and to take initiative in a range of tasks as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with standard biochemical and molecular assays, as well as animal care and use.
  • 12 months of experience working with lab animals and lab procedures.
