The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

The UEIL is looking for a Research Assistant (RA)/Technician for a one-year grant-funded position. The RA will be responsible for various technical tasks in the laboratory, including maintaining breeding colonies, conducting behavioral assays, perfusions, tissue processing for immunohistochemistry and microscopy, and preparing samples for qPCR, RNAseq, spatial sequencing, histochemical, and biochemical assays. Additional responsibilities include checking and maintaining lab stocks and solutions, staying current with regulatory trainings, and providing general lab support. We are looking for a motivated individual with a strong background in neuroscience or molecular biology and a proven track record of working with small animals in a laboratory setting.

Led by Dr. Konofagou, the Department of Biomedical Engineering's UEIL is a translational science lab focused on using ultrasound for real-time imaging and as a theranostic tool in treating neurodegenerative disorders. The role involves assisting with studies using focused ultrasound for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders and providing support to other groups as needed.

Responsibilities

  • (25%) Perform cryostat sectioning and immunohistochemistry.
  • (25%) Handling small animals and perfusions.
  • (15%) Perform and assist with mouse behavior as needed.
  • (15%) Assist with mouse colony handling.
  • (10%) Sample preparation for qPCR, RNAseq, spatial sequencing, and biochemical assays.
  • (5%) Assist in the maintenance of lab safety protocols.
  • (5%) Performs other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree required in a scientific discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in a research environment. 1 year of experience handling rodents in a laboratory setting and/or wet-laboratory experience.
  • Skills and Knowledge: The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, and positively contribute. to labs aims and objectives. Strong organization, communication, and computer skills. Ability to prioritize, work independently and under direct supervision from senior lab personnel.
  • Preferred: Preference will be given to individuals with prior experience working with independently with animals (i.e. breeding, behavior, surgery) and laboratory experience (can include undergrad volunteering in research lab) in chemistry, biology, physics, or related science, although neuroscience or behavioral psychology is highly preferred
