Google Product Counsel, YouTube in New York, New York

This role may also be located in our Playa Vista, CA campus.

Minimum qualifications:

  • JD, LL.B., equivalent degree, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Admitted to the bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located.

  • 7 years of attorney-level experience in government, in-house, or at a law firm.

  • Experience in content regulation, privacy, media, communications, copyright or agreement law, as well as litigation.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience advising regulated industries involving enforcement of laws, or engagement with law enforcement or regulatory agencies, regarding digital content.

  • Ability to work collaboratively, cohesively, and strategically.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

As an integrated part of the team, you proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century, but move information law forward as well.

In this role, you will help develop and implement legal approaches and policies for YouTube, helping product and operations teams make decisions based upon legal judgment. You'll work with the YouTube Product, Engineering, Compliance, and Trust and Safety teams, and collaborate with Partner teams across Alphabet to help launch products and policies that comply with laws from around the world, with an emphasis on responsibility efforts covering content regulation, privacy, copyright, legal removals, Generative AI, and consumer protection issues. You'll also support colleagues in legal, operations, government relations and public relations on a range of product matters. This includes collaborating with lawyers around the world on critical matters, including litigation and regulatory work.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $224,000-$319,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Provide legal advice on YouTube's efforts to foster a responsible and open platform, including initiatives related to content moderation, election integrity, harmful misinformation and borderline material, news, health information, and preventing bias.

  • Provide legal advice to teams from Engineering, Product Management, Advertising Sales, Marketing, and Communications from the initial stages of product development to launch.

  • Provide legal support for YouTube's regulatory compliance obligations, domestic and international, across multiple areas including content regulation, consumer protection, privacy, copyright.

  • Collaborate with YouTube’s Public Policy and Trust and Safety teams, and across Alphabet on policy development regarding content regulation, consumer protection, privacy, copyright, and other emerging areas of law applicable to digital content.

  • Develop expertise in global content regulations and collaborate with other product counsel to advise cross-functional teams on the impact of these laws for YouTube.
