The NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools is a research and professional learning services center that supports equity-focused, evidence-based innovations in educational research and programming. We operate as a complex collective of multiple sub-units with different areas of specialization.

NYU Metro Center’s work falls into five categories: 1) technical assistance to districts and schools; 2) professional learning to teachers and leaders; 3) applied research and evaluation of district and school programs; 4) scholarly research conducted by NYU Metro Center researchers and NYU faculty affiliates; and 5) youth development programs including college readiness, youth-led advocacy and organizing, and youth participatory action research. NYU Metro Center has a history of experience providing assistance and mobilizing resources to address a variety of issues related to educational inequity, segregation, disproportionality, discrimination of all kinds, and social injustice.

The Project for the Advancement of our Common Humanity at the NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools is seeking a Post-bac Research Associate to support research and publication efforts for PACH and the Listening Project. The Project for the Advancement of Our Common Humanity (PACH) is a think-and-do tank that draws from the science of human connection in order to create a more just and humane world. Our work involves research, curriculum development, community interventions, and trainings that provide solutions to the crisis of connection around the world.

We are seeking a Post-bac Research Associate to support our team in the following ways:

The Post-bac Research Associate will be tasked to lead research initiatives which

includes the Listening Project. They will be in charge of overseeing behavioral coding

and data analysis, supervising and mentoring research assistants/students, and writing scholarly papers. Additionally, the role includes administrative responsibilities, grant writing, and assisting with the publication of findings from the Listening Project data.

This role is a hybrid position. The job duties for this position require onsite presence 60-80% of the time (i.e., 2-3 days per week).

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $55,000 - $60,000. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.

Principal Responsibilities

Research Leadership (70%)

  • Lead and manage the research team tasked with coding and analyzing data from the Listening Project

  • Assist with the preparation and submission of manuscripts based on the Listening Project data to relevant scholarly journals.

  • Supervise, mentor, and train research assistants to ensure high-quality research outputs and professional development.

  • Write and contribute to research papers, ensuring findings are communicated effectively to the scientific community.

    Administrative Duties (15%)

  • Coordinate scheduling of project meetings and manage the calendar for the research team.

  • Organize and filter emails to prioritize communication related to the project,

    facilitating efficient information flow.

    Grant Writing (15%)

  • Lead and participate in the development of grant proposals to secure funding for research.

  • Craft compelling narratives and develop budgets that align with the goals and

    needs of the research project.

    The ideal candidate is, first and foremost, committed to our organizational mission and vision and reflects the following qualifications:

    Required Experience:

    ○ Previous experience in a research role, preferably within an academic or applied psychology setting.

    ○ Demonstrated experience in behavioral coding and data analysis.

    Required Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

    ○ Strong knowledge of research methodologies and statistical analysis.

    ○ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    ○ Ability to supervise and mentor junior research staff and students.

    ○ Strong organizational and administrative skills.

    Preferred Education:

    ○ Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Applied Psychology, or a related field.

    Preferred Experience:

    ○ Experience leading research projects or teams.

    ○ Proven track record of successful grant writing.

    ○ Experience in publishing scholarly papers.
