The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York Open Rank Faculty position in Applied/Materials Physics in New York, New York

The Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics (APAM) at Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor or associate professor faculty position in Applied/Materials Physics. APAM is a highly multi-disciplinary department investigating fundamental math, physics, and materials science problems underlying critical applications in science and engineering ranging from Plasma/Fusion physics to Climate dynamics. For this search, the Department is particularly interested in candidates with research interests in the broad category of Applied/Materials Physics, such as condensed matter physics and its application, optics and photonics, nanoscience and technology, theoretical quantum information science, computational materials science, molecular dynamics with machine learning potentials, advanced materials for fission and/or fusion, and related fields. While candidates at the junior level are preferred, exceptional candidates at the tenured associate professor or professor levels will also be considered.


Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or related areas by the start date of the appointment. Applicants for this position at the tenure-track Assistant Professor and Associate Professor levels must have the potential to do pioneering research and teach effectively. Applicants for this position at the tenured Associate or Full Professor level must have a demonstrated record of outstanding research accomplishments, excellent teaching credentials, and established leadership in the field.

Candidates at all levels must be able to demonstrate the ability to develop a highly successful and internationally recognized independent research program and to participate effectively in the teaching of our core applied physics or materials science curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate level.
