The Marketing Department of Arnold & Porter is seeking a dynamic and organized Business Development (BD) Specialist. This role may be located in the Boston, Chicago, New York, or Washington, DC office. The BD Specialist will support the transactional practice group initiatives. The BD Specialist provides support for a wide range of business development activities. Success in this role will depend upon your ability to collaborate effectively with team members (including seeking help and asking questions when needed), develop familiarity with the firm’s various resources and systems, hone your instincts to anticipate questions and potential issues, independently manage your time and consistently “go the extra mile” without being asked. You will be expected to establish yourself as a trusted, responsive resource to your BD and Marketing colleagues and the lawyers in the transactional practices. Excellent judgment and discretion in handling confidential or sensitive information is critical in this role. The majority of time will be devoted to pitches/proposals and practice group promotional information. Essential Functions:Support BD Managers in the implementation of strategic business plans for the transactional practices that include both visibility-raising initiatives and targeted business development activities.Collaborate with BD Manager and lawyers to prepare thoughtful, substantive pitches and proposals tailored to specific matters and practice areas. Track all pitches to evaluate pipeline, wins/losses and trends by client type, practice, industry, etc.Work with partners to develop and execute live and virtual seminars, custom client education programs, and related events.Assist with the maintenance of the firm’s experience database (Foundation) as well as practice and industry-specific deal lists.Draft and manage directory submissions, rankings, and surveys for transactional practices in collaboration with partners and BD team.Work with incoming lateral partners and counsel to assist with the integration of the new lawyers into the assigned practice.Help ensure client contact and activity information is tracked and maintained in the firm DCRM system (InterAction)Draft and manage practice group content on the firm’s website, including regularly updating attorney biographies and experience highlights. Coordinate information and research requests with Market Research team and Accounting & Finance personnel.Mentoring junior staff on best practices.Manage other business development projects as necessary. Qualifications:Four-year degree or equivalent experience.Minimum of four (4) years of marketing and business development experience.Knowledge of transactional practices is a plus. Experience with planning and preparing pitches, substantive presentations and other marketing materials.Ability to thrive in an electronic environment and utilize technology to deliver information. Proficiency in methods of information acquisition, including the use of online information databases, tools and resources.Command of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel).Proficiency in CRM systems - prior experience with Interaction is an asset.Superior presentation, writing, and oral communication skills.Ability to work confidently and effectively with partners and senior administration of the firm. Excellent project management skills, with keen attention to detail and an ability to prioritize and execute multiple ongoing tasks often under tight deadlines.An ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline driven environment.“Team player” mentality with great collegiality responding well to an evolving environment and is willing to be flexible and lend support where needed.Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.Excellent editing and proofreading skills.All applicants must submit a resume, cover letter, and brief writing sample.The anticipated base salary for this position is $75,000 to $110,000.
