This position is eligible for telework which is currently one day per week. New hires are eligible to apply 30 days after their effective date of hire.

SUMMARY :

The Assistant Manager, Station Access Changes and Wayfinding role is focused on in-station customer guidance and flow. This role ensures that temporary information and wayfinding signage, in and around station construction projects, is helpful, clear, properly placed and well maintained.

This is a hands-on position in the field, aligned with the cadence of MTA’s capital and maintenance programs. The selected candidate must possess and apply the right mix of agile thinking, flexibility, and practicality to expeditiously detect and mitigate customer journey issues. This role also requires a willingness to embrace customer feedback, which is critical to the goal of continuous improvement to benefit the millions of people we move each day.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Generates a wide range of critical station access change advisory and mitigation messaging for print and digital signage to inform customers.

  • Captures all project-driven planned changes to public spaces within a station to ensure comms alignment with facility management.

  • Minimizes gaps in continuity through the messaging life cycle with project tracking (pre-construction warning, closure time point, mid-construction, restore time point) with contractors, Stations department and Traffic Checking Operations.

  • Conducts on-site station environment examinations to determine optimal message format (size), placement (sightline) and presentation (agency representation) for maximum clarity, customer utility and durability. The incumbent would be responsible for optimizing sign layout, design, and delivering the product to execute multiple stakeholders’ input.

  • Performs quality assurance inspections in-station for consistent signage maintenance and ensure that the signage is accurate and is performing effectively.

  • Stays abreast of customer impact over the course of an access change by maintaining regular communication with Station Department (GSM), Operations Planning, Station Signage and Contractor. Participates in the decision-making process regarding resource deployment in support of pedestrian flow control.

  • Collaborates with Service Information group/Marketing to fulfill comms products requests.

  • Identifies expenditures for products and services within approved budget guidelines and brings budgetary concerns to management’s attention. For example, costs for translating signs for closures are within budget and may need to flag this issue for management’s attention.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud products or comparable applications: InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator.

  • Demonstrated general knowledge of NYC-Metro transportation network or comparable transit networks.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Apple branded products as well as Microsoft Office Suite or comparable applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Proficiency and adaptability with cloud-based project management platforms.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with key internal and/or external stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with all internal levels within a given organization.

  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to complete short- and long-term projects effectively and as efficiently as possible.

  • May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e., evenings and weekends).

  • Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

    REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Public Policy, Architecture, Urban Planning/Design, Construction Management, Construction Technology or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

  • Minimum three (3) years related experience.

    PREFERRED:

  • Ma ster’s degree in a related field.

  • Experience with large urban transportation facility operations (airports, multi-modal rail, and bus).

  • Demonstrated supervisory and/or leadership abilities.

  • Familiarity with or the ability to learn wayfinding principles and MTA design standards.

  • Exposure to high attendance special event planning.

  • Exposure to Limited English Proficiency translation requirements.

  • Prior experience working in a large, multi-faceted, fast-paced organization or governmental body.

  • Familiarity with the MTA’s policies and procedures.
