The Global Merchant & Network Pricing (GMNP) team is responsible for the single largest source of revenue for American Express: Merchant discount revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine pricing structures that encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, the team drives merchant revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, flexible pricing architecture, and innovative pricing solutions.

The Pricing Analytics team is the analytical arm of GMNP and will be responsible for providing analytical support for strategic merchant pricing initiatives. This team is instrumental in the success of GMNS by supporting and executing strategies and analysis that drive business growth objectives. This position will work alongside Pricing Leadership in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and assist in high profile projects with significant impact to the U.S. merchant business.

What type of work can you expect to do in Pricing at American Express?

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to gain knowledge of the payments industry, as well as exposure to and insight from stakeholders across American Express. The Analyst should be a collaborative go-getter who can partner closely with their team and business partners. Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the design and implementation of pricing strategies based on business and financial objectives, market and competitive analyses, and pricing capabilities

  • Create financial models to assess large data sets, identify pricing levers, and evaluate key variables

  • Run pricing scenario analyses and identify actionable insights

  • Assess impacts of pricing strategies to inform recommendations

Skills/Experience

  • Strong aptitude for analytics with an ability to develop financial models and provide insights from large amounts of data, with direction and input from leaders

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to translate trends and analysis into salient recommendations

  • Creative thinker who wants to question traditional ways of doing things

  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic, results-driven team environment

  • Ability to handle multiple requests re-prioritize based on leadership input

  • Some experience and comfort in both data modeling and SQL are required

  • Experience in quantitative data analysis methods and data mining is a plus, including Python, BigQuery, etc.

  • Proficiency with Excel and other MS Office products

Qualifications

Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually bonus benefits
