JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State New Kensington invites applications for a teaching faculty position (Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor) in Engineering to begin August 2024. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, one-year appointment for the Fall 24/Spring 25 academic year. Responsibilities include teaching a range of undergraduate courses (typically 12 credit hours per semester) in Engineering including statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, and engineering design. Teaching assignments may include evening classes, online, and hybrid instruction. The faculty member will also assist with service expectations that may include committee assignments. Scholarship expectations may include active participation in professional organizations, supervision of undergraduate research students, and other engaged scholarship.

Qualifications include a minimum of a master’s degree in engineering focused in the areas of mechanical, industrial, civil, architectural, materials science, aerospace, or closely related disciplines. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge and experience in the majority of the following areas: computer aided design, statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials. Prior college-level teaching experience is strongly preferred. Interest in active and collaborative learning, the instructional use of technology, and hybrid and online teaching is an advantage.

Penn State New Kensington is one of more than 20 Penn State campuses located across the Commonwealth. Our 70-acre campus in scenic, rural Westmoreland County is situated only 30 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, and the location offers a wide range of lifestyles from urban to rural. We are a student-centered campus of approximately 500 students. The coursework for the first two years of more than 160 Penn State baccalaureate majors is offered, as well as 10 baccalaureate degrees and 5 associate degrees that can be completed at the campus. Our students receive a world-class education delivered in a small-campus setting and have opportunities to participate in undergraduate research projects supervised by faculty members.
