Nevada County is seeking Accounting Assistant II full-time permanent position for collections operations. This is a responsible journey-level position where individuals are expected to perform assigned duties with only occasional instructions or assistance. Individuals will perform a variety of routine clerical accounting duties related to the processing, maintaining and preparing statistical, financial, billing records. Other vital duties include:

  • Receive, review, verify and process daily parking citations

  • Monitor performance of vendor contract and payment associated to, code compliance, citations, victim restitution, medical costs associated with an arrest, non-sufficient funds checks

  • Handle account disputes and facilitate communication between customers, collection agencies and County departments

  • Perform technical financial record keeping for collections operations. Prepare records and reconcile transactions, reconcile insufficient funds and returns, prepare other accounting documents

  • Apply and implement County policies, State and Federal laws and regulations

  • Work with multiple software platforms. Compile and analyze data using Microsoft Excel.

An Accounting Assistant II is an integral part of the County's accounting team whose mission is to support the Accounting department by performing clerical tasks, including processing and recording transactions, and preparing reports!

This position is crafted for individuals who have graduated from high school and have at least 2 years of clerical experience at a level comparable to the Office Assistant I with the County of Nevada. Furthermore, 2 years of experience at a level equivalent to Nevada County's classification of Account­ing Assistant I is required. No college degree is required but if you have taken a few courses in accounting or a related field, that's a plus!

Level I: Equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade and at least two years of clerical experience at a level comparable to the Office Assistant I with the County of Nevada

Level II: (in addition to the above) Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Nevada County's classification of Accounting Assistant I.

Retirement

The County is a member of the CalPERS retirement system and provides the opportunity for voluntary contributions to a 457 deferred compensation account through Nationwide by way of pre-tax and Roth payroll deductions.
