Position Summary/Description:

The role of the Project Manager for State Engagement at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is pivotal in orchestrating and facilitating various initiatives aimed at enhancing the university’s connections and collaborations with partners across the state of North Carolina. At the forefront of these responsibilities is the management of campus-wide initiatives, with a particular focus on two key areas: the annual Tar Heel Bus Tour and the establishment and upkeep of a comprehensive tool for documenting the university’s engaged projects and partnerships throughout the state.

One primary facet of the Project Manager’s role involves spearheading the planning and execution of the annual Tar Heel Bus Tour. This includes liaising with an array of stakeholders and partners, such as the Chancellor’s office and the Carolina Engagement Council. The Project Manager plays a crucial role in identifying, documenting and showcasing engaged teaching, research and service efforts across various university units. Working in partnership with campus and community partners, they contribute to the selection of pertinent sites for faculty, students and administrators to visit during the Tar Heel Bus Tour or at other times, fostering a dynamic environment for learning and strengthening engagement with the state.

The Project Manager is entrusted with the expertise and support of all aspects of the Tar Heel Bus Tour, encompassing both logistical and content-related elements. This involves seamless collaboration with the Chancellor’s office, tour leadership, planning committee and other key partners such as university communications and financial management. Through effective coordination, the Project Manager ensures the successful execution of the tour, maximizing its impact in fostering connections and promoting the university’s commitment to engagement.

Another critical responsibility is overseeing and managing the documentation of the university’s engagement initiatives across North Carolina. Following a comprehensive design thinking process undertaken by university stakeholders during the 2023-2024 academic year, the Project Manager will take the lead in translating the identified best tool and method into actionable processes and procedures. This includes driving the development, implementation and maintenance of the chosen tool, as well as strategizing on how to effectively promote and utilize it in planning activities and advocating for campus and community partnerships.
