Position Summary/Description:

A SIGN -ON BONUS OF $7,499 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE :

$3,749.50 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $3,749.50 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE .

This position functions as a Planner within Facilities Planning and Design. Primary responsibilities are in the areas of program development, space management, and project management. The recent creation of a Space Management governance process along with a Space Management committee has necessitated the need for dedicated expertise of a planner to work with stakeholders across campus on programmatic and space needs, assess current space utilization by units along with the condition of these spaces as it relates to their intended use, develop scopes of work for space renovation, and ensure that these capital projects are executed consistent with the stated program.

Specifically, this position will conduct meetings to discuss space needs, assess building utilization through in-person walkthroughs and data aggregation, develop diagrams to depict potential changes in the design and use of campus buildings, and create reports for the review of Facilities and Finance and Operations leadership. This will include interface across the range of space types at UNC -CH, from administrative office, instructional, and research space to residential, recreational, dining, and athletics.

The project management portion of the position will require the preparation and tracking of project budgets and schedules, designer and other consultant selection, contract negotiation and execution, coordination with campus stakeholders such as Facilities Operations, Transportation and Parking, Energy Services, and Environmental Health and Safety, ensuring compliance with campus design guidelines and the Campus Master Plan, and participation in bidding and construction meetings.

Education and Experience:

Related project design and management experience preferred. Experience with higher education or institutional capital projects and knowledge of complex building systems is also preferred.

Essential Skills:

Strong written and verbal communication skills. Extensive knowledge of design and construction industry.

Ability to build consensus among groups, develop initial scope, budget and schedule for formal Capital Improvement Projects; manage projects assigned to outside consultants; and review capital improvement projects for compliance with national and state codes, standards and University guidelines. Knowledge, skills, and abilities with Building Codes, National Fire Protection Association ( NFPA ,) Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA ) and other State and Federal Regulations.

Must also possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one prior to start date.
