Job Summary:

Responsible for leading activities of the CHAT (Children's Hospital Alliance of Tn) Quality and Safety Collaborative team (Solutions for Patient Safety). Identifies appropriate resources needed, and develops schedules to ensure time completion of project. Coordinates the activities of the team by becoming familiar with system scope and project objectives, as well as the role and function of each team member. Leads project teams, coaches the development of other staff and implements multiple complex projects.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops project plans, goals and objectives in collaboration with project and department leadership.

• Provides professional and/or technical leadership in the execution of day-to-day project activities.

• Communicates within and across department to maximize information sharing around progress, needs, inter-dependencies and accomplishments.

• Assures successful implementation of people, process and systems changes to support redefined service delivery model.

• Participates in institutional task forces and other special committees related to the achievement of goals and objective.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

• Project Management (Advanced): Planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives.

• Project Planning (Advanced): Demonstrates ability to forecast resource needs, identify and break work down into discrete and measurable tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, prepare acceptance criteria and organize work for large, complex projects requiring diverse functions and/or operations. Continuously monitors and follows up on buyins and commitments. Competently handles multiple projects simultaneously, balancing and scheduling tasks requiring dependencies and those which can be accomplished independently. Accurately estimates and plans complex projects and assignments. Maintains perspective between the overall picture and the details. Is proficient in the advanced features of project management tools.

• Financial Processes (Advanced): Ability to monitor costs, expenses and revenue as well as the ability to manage those costs and expenses in relation to budgeted amounts.

• Mentoring & Coaching (Intermediate): The essence of training and mentoring on the job is transfer of knowledge. Whereas training can be considered more formal and scheduled, mentoring is often in the form of guidance and "hands-on" experiences. The reporting relationship is unimportant since the purpose is to pass on information and experiences. These discussions normally center around a person's goal of learning job procedures, content, standards, analysis and problem-solving.

• Process Improvement (Advanced): Identifies, analyzes and improves upon existing business processes for optimization and to meet standards of quality.

• Gap Analysis (Advanced): Analyzes the difference between the current and desired state. The ability to draw appropriate and valid conclusions from data presented, sifting through data to determine the most significant elements. Identifying common elements and themes in situations and actions, recognizing cause and effect relationships.

Location: The role is a hybrid-remote role, based in Nashville, Tennessee. The individual will typically work from home but may be required to attend in-person meetings about one-third of the workdays, with the most intense period of in-person meeting days occurring in January – April. An annual (typically out of state, late May overnight) trip to the SPS collaborative conference is also a requirement for the role as is an annual convening of all SPS collaborative members in Nashville or at another Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

The CHAT Project Manager will be a dynamic individual interested in operating at the intersection of healthcare and public policy. The project manager is a dual part role, both leading the Solutions for Patient Safety Quality and Safety Collaborative – organizing quarterly reports, coordinating with hospital quality collaborative stakeholders, analyzing data trends, interfacing with national SPS center on quality patient care – as well as supporting data analysis, projects and other collaborative work (convening work groups, stakeholder meetings, and briefing sessions) related to public policy and advocacy across the member hospitals and with other stakeholder groups.

About you:

Bachelors degree required

Masters degree or demonstration of strong quantitative methods, research, and data visualization competencies required

Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare, hospital, or research setting

Curious and agile mind – interested in tracking root causes and backward mapping ideas for improving patient care

Ability to organize project material, track projects, and create clear systems of accountability to ensure visibility into project success.

Demonstrated facility with Excel and database management systems

Excellent organization and communication skills - comfortable leading stakeholder meetings and documenting findings.

Ability to define and communicate goals for stakeholders

Ability to synthesize findings in writing as well as through visual displays

CHAT has worked with leaders to support the statewide expansion of CoverKids, passage of smokefree workplace legislation, passage of the child safety seat law, statewide expansion of Coordinated School Health, Katie Beckett expansion, increasing physical activity in schools and improving nutrition standards in TN school vending machines and school cafeterias.

Quality and Safety Collaborative – CHAT member hospitals are joined by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to form the Quality and Safety Collaborative whose mission is to improve the quality of care and eliminate serious harm across Tennessee's children’s hospitals. The collaborative comprises quality, nursing, and physician representatives.
