Job Title Student Assistant - Residence Life Senior Resident Assistant (Summer 2024)
General Description
This is a live-in student position responsible for facilitating the social, educational, intellectual, and cultural development of each student through developing a community within SFA’s residence halls. Responsible for articulating the philosophy and policies of the Residence Life Department and SFA to students while representing the department as a role model in all facets of university life. This position is assigned to floors/areas of approximately 25 to 55 students. Works under close supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Job Duties
Understands, supports, follows, enforces, and educates students and staff about university objectives, policies, and regulations and Residence Hall Community Guidelines.
Maintains ongoing communication with departmental staff.
Displays a positive, professional attitude and support towards students, staff, and the department.
Works the residence hall front desk six hours each week.
Participates in weekly and weekend building duty rotation.
Makes self available and accessible to students by spending quality interaction time in designated residence halls during duty and non-duty hours.
Acts as a referral agent for students and staff to different campus and community resources.
Attends, participates in, supports, and recruits for Residence Hall Association ( RHA ) and other associations. Keeps residents and staff informed of activities.
Attends and participates in all staff training sessions including weekly staff meetings, extended training sessions, and others as assigned.
Assists in coordinating the programming needs assessment process in assigned halls.
Actively and appropriately addresses and documents all student conduct concerns.
Ensures building security and safety.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends as assigned. Also required to return approximately 5 days before beginning of each term and remain until after halls have closed for each semester.
Required Qualifications
The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University. Must be an active student in good academic standing (cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher).
Must be currently employed by Residence Life. Must have 2 semesters or 1 year of Resident Assistant (formerly Community Assistant) experience.

Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.
Special Conditions for Eligibility
A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.
Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
