Position Summary :
Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Certified Pharmacy Technician fills medication orders, prepackages, compounds pharmaceuticals, refills & orders meds to restocks meds & supplies, and delivers medications as needed. The Certified Pharmacy Technician agrees to support the goals, objectives, and proper function of the department and the hospital in order to provide positive patient outcomes while maintaining patient confidentiality. The Certified Pharmacy Technician will comply with the policies, laws, regulations, and standards that govern the practice of pharmacy as well as those of the hospital.
Summary of Primary Functions/Duties:
Attention to detail with high speed efficiency and accuracy.
Proficiency in calculations and data entry.
Proficiency in pharmacy insurance processes.
Fills medication orders for inpatient/outpatient areas, and for employee partners.
Proficiency in Cash register money handling to sell Prescriptions and OTC items.
Compounds, labels, and repackages medications under the supervision of pharmacist.
Orders and Refills Med-Inventory. Works toward optimal inventory levels-max/min
Assists pharmacist in processing controlled substances requisitions and associated documentation and filing required and utilization of CII Safe.
Delivers supplies to patient units and ancillary areas as needed.
Answers telephones and responds to questions and problems as authorized.
Performs clerical and billing duties as assigned. Maintains logs and filing systems
Orders medications/supplies from suppliers as assigned, and checks orders on receiving.
Removes expired or soon to expire drugs from inventory and re-orders as necessary.

Precepts Pharmacy Tech Students & participates in applied education of Pharmacy Students
Active role in Departmental projects such as Pharmacy Week/Poison Prevention Week/Health Fairs
Attends annual orientation and other in-services as required by pharmacy and GHS. Completes and passes periodic competency tests as required by the department, the hospital or regulatory agencies.
Maintains an appropriate level of competency in order to perform the job duties as required by the department as well as continuing education credits as required by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, the Board of Pharmacy, and any other regulatory agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification :
High School graduate or equivalent with strong math/algebra, reading comprehension, typing and computer entry skills.
Technician Certification is required with compliance in all aspects of a GHS Certified Pharmacy Technician-level I.
State Certified with LLR/SC Board of Pharmacy or Nationally Certified
Specialized training in an accredited pharmacy Technician program is preferred.
Experience :
Pharmacy Technician with 2 years of Retail Pharmacy experience.
Must maintain an appropriate level of competency in order to perform the job duties as required by the department, the hospital and any regulatory agencies.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :
Good customer service and oral/written communication skills required.
Strong knowledge of medications required.
Ability to work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staffs.
Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
Ability to set priorities, makes decisions, and responds quickly to emergency requests.
Ability to assist the pharmacist in meeting the pharmaceutical needs of neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
Physical Requirements : Light-Medium Physical Agility Test (PAT) Rating
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 15 to 20 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or 5 to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
