The Azure Networking team is responsible for designing and building the software-defined network infrastructure that powers hundreds of thousands of servers around the globe for Azure, Bing, and other Microsoft cloud services. At the forefront of Hyperscale Cloud Computing, Azure Networking runs one of the largest datacenter network infrastructures in the world. By joining this team, you will gain valuable experience in service-oriented network architectures and datacenter networking at massive scale. As part of this team, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping our High-performance Computing/Artificial Intelligence network technology, driving network telemetry, monitoring, and enhancing performance, scalability, and reliability.

We are looking for a Software Engineer II to help us automate massive amounts of network metadata, as well as automating interactions with network devices – designing, writing, and deploying distributed software that will continuously monitor the health of our network and the communications over it. Example challenges include creating software-defined networks, building architectures that collect information from network switches and servers, rapidly analyzing them, and then orchestrating repair actions. You’ll also evaluate new network device features and performance, validate the health of network devices, collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and architect High-performance Computing (HPC) network systems, and actively participate in the development of software solutions tailored for high-performance computing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.

  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.

  • Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.

  • Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.

  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product/service for simple problems.

  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ years of experience with networking, distributed systems, and system-level programming.

Other Requirements:

  • Cloud Screening: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Candidates should be able to successfully complete and pass a Microsoft Cloud background screening. Required Cloud Screenings will be administered on a recurring bi-annual basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
