Mechanic I - Mt Vernon, IN

Responsibilities – What are the job duties?

  • Reports to Port Engineer

  • Follow all safety rules and make safety contacts.

  • Complete tasks with minimal supervision, and takes the lead on tasks as needed.

  • Troubleshoot vessel machinery with minimal assistance.

  • Request supplies and assist in maintaining inventories.

  • Fill in as maintenance lead person during their absence.

  • Call outside contractors as needed for assistance.

  • Notify immediate supervisor of non-operable, inadequate, or unsafe equipment or working conditions.

  • Perform work in accordance with company safety standards and practices.

  • Complete required trainings as scheduled.

Requirements – what skills, knowledge, and abilities would someone need to do this job?

  • Meet all mechanic requirements for I and II.

  • Responsible for completing maintenance for a fleet of vessels.

  • Requisition supplies with minimal assistance.

  • In Mechanic-on-call rotation.

  • Can view, open, and finish tasks in HELM maintenance program.

  • ADM Electrical II trained.

  • Perform repairs and service a wide variety of equipment with minimal supervision including: changing batteries/gauges/motors/pumps and performing diesel engine work (turbos, manifolds, etc.)

  • Knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, piping, electrical devices, and other vessel machinery.

  • Complete vessel service intervals.

  • Ability to complete, engine swings, and gearbox swings with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to align, straighten, and maintain steering systems.

  • Ability to give accurate repair scopes and timelines.

  • Heavy equipment or diesel mechanic background is a plus.
