Based out of Microsoft Campus in Mountain View California, the People and Presence team is responsible for all aspects of user related features on Microsoft Teams, including user profile, avatar, presence, contacts, and more. The team’s work impacts experiences across the application – chat, channels, calendar, meetings, etc. and needs to scale to tens of billions of requests per day. Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and sustain large scale distributed platform services.

  • Participate in product design discussions with the PM teams.

  • Drive & contribute to service fundamentals.

  • Demonstrate keen attention to detail and data interpretation skills to effectively monitor, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues in a live site system.

  • Mentor other engineers and actively contribute to architectural decisions.

  • Lead the identification and definition of new features to aligning with organizational goals and service improvements.

  • Opportunity to collaborate with stakeholders and architects to deliver timely products to our partners and customers.

  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, architecture discussions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years of hands-on experience shipping enterprise grade highly available, highly scalable, reliable, distributed systems.

  • 2+ years experience with deploying production services to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP.

  • 2+ years experience with design, implementation in Azure Compute, Azure Storage, Azure Cache, or equivalent technology stack in other cloud providers.

  • 2+ years experience in computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, information retrieval.

Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science,

  • OR related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to C#, or Java or other object-oriented programming

  • OR Masters in Computer Science or Engineering AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience with unit-test, continuous integration and test-driven development.

  • Prior experience or interest in site reliability engineering/dev-ops.

  • Development experience in all phases of the product lifecycle.

  • Collaboration skills, including experience working across organizational boundaries.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
