Google Senior Product Design Engineer in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 5 years of experience designing mechanical components such as plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards, or flexes.

  • 5 years of experience using computer-aided design tools (e.g., 3D MCAD, NX, Creo, or Solidworks).

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of work experience in consumer product design.

  • Experience shipping multiple consumer products in a lead or senior engineer role.

  • Experience collaborating with suppliers on part manufacturing and final assembly, including onsite factory support.

  • Experience with system integration, including electro-mechanical components (e.g., audio, display, camera, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product architecture.

  • Knowledge of multiple manufacturing methods used in consumer products.

Our Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Mechanical Engineer you design and evaluate our data center systems, identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing an architecture that will scale with Google's continued growth.

With your technical expertise, you lead and manage projects, develop product and process improvements, provide consultation to others and help facilitate training and development.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $142,000-$211,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Balance design considerations such as functionality, sustainability, reliability, human factors, manufacturability, aesthetics, and design for technical innovative ideas, and solve issues associated with the product development path.

  • Manage the product design, provide guidance to team members, communicate progress, and request feedback to prevent/remove roadblocks.

  • Design subsystems or multiple individual parts from concept to production, including fixtures to enable automation of precision assembly processes.

  • Drive discussions on system assembly process down-selection, prototyping, equipment and tooling needs for assembly meeting mechanical, optical, and reliability requirements.

  • Collaborate with suppliers of subsystems or individual parts throughout the design and manufacturing process, and with teams supporting part design.
