Mountain View, CA

X is Alphabet’s moonshot factory. We are a diverse group of inventors and entrepreneurs who build and launch technologies that aim to improve the lives of millions, even billions, of people. Our goal: 10x impact on the world’s most intractable problems, not just 10% improvement. We approach projects that have the aspiration and riskiness of research with the speed and ambition of a startup.

About the team:

We are a team working to rapidly decarbonize the electric grid. Our mission is to help create a shared understanding of what is happening on the grid for everyone who is involved in building, managing and using it.

The team is multi-disciplinary, bringing together expertise in machine learning, computer vision, and geospatial analysis. What unites us is a drive for impact and willingness to look ridiculous. We celebrate spectacular failures. Learn more aboutProject Tapestry.

This opportunity is for a 6-9 month position within X, the moonshot factory. If this project is successful, this role will immediately transition into the same full-time role at an exciting early-stage startup outside of X that was birthed from this project. This is a rare chance to shape the future in an extremely meaningful way!

About the role:

This is an opportunity to be a foundational member of the product team for an early stage product innovating quickly at the intersection of science and engineering. We are working to push the boundaries of what is possible in a rapidly evolving field. There is no roadmap here. You’ll need to identify the opportunities and help create the products that transform this space.

In this role, you will:

  • Apply product management best practices to creatively solve complex, ambiguous, and novel problems.

  • Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary science and engineering team, operating as a connecting point between software & hardware engineering, operations, and business.

  • Develop a highly ambitious yet practical strategy for pushing the boundaries of what's possible today while foreseeing future needs and opportunities

  • “Roll up your sleeves” and get stuff done as an independent self driven product manager with stage appropriate product management rigor and hygiene

  • Apply data driven approaches where possible for driving clarity on prioritization, scoping and measuring impact of product capabilities and roadmap

What you should have:

We’re looking for an experienced product manager with demonstrated talent for strategy, creativity, and execution. Experience bridging software engineering with hardware, sciences, robotics, or other domains is a plus. Our ideal candidate has experience in research environments and management experience.

  • PhD/Masters in science or engineering a plus

  • Startup experience, or equivalent experience on early stage teams

  • 8+ years of product management experience. Any product experience with both software and hardware is a bonus

  • Strong knowledge of enterprise customer segment along with experience of dealing with ambiguous requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge and foundation in AI/ML and SaaS capabilities and prior experience in productizing research outcomes

  • Any experience in power systems or energy grid knowledge would be beneficial but not mandatory

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $168,000 - $266,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.

Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
