Process Development Engineer

Morris Plains, NJ

We are currently recruiting for an Engineer - R&D Process Development, Sun Skin & Body in support of our global R&D organization. This position will be based out of our MORRIS PLAINS, NJ, USA location.

THE ROLE

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Leading scale up initiatives for all new IMP launches including
    • Develop and document processing methods, (Transformation Flow Sheet) for new and renovated products
    • Production of scale up batches to confirm process and finished product specifications at pilot and factory level
    • Apply process improvement tools including statistical process control, process mapping, design of Experiments for new and current products
    • Develop technical learning plans using appropriate internal R&D and Supply Chain Resources
    • Manage all documentation and records associated with pilot and industrial scale manufacture, ensuring accurate recording of all work and appropriate filing and storage.
    • Execute and document with excellence lab, pilot and plant scale trials as appropriate.
    • Traveling to production facilities to commercialize new launches; 25% travel
    • Analyze critical line data to optimize finished product specifications that meets consumer expectations
    • Innovation master plan (IMP) work where required depending on business need
    • Ongoing technical support for our manufacturing sites (troubleshooting, derogations, Out of Specs investigations/resolution)
    • Execute and document with excellence lab, pilot and plant scale trials as appropriate.
    • Creative problem solving to overcome technical issues in delivery and current business.
    • Troubleshooting and resolution of manufacturing plant issues using appropriate internal R&D and Supply Chain resources.
    • Clear communication of formulation and process development challenges, issues, and successes with senior management

QUALIFICATIONS

We'd love to see candidates who have:

Essential:

    • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Science.
    • A high attention to detail and hands on approach to running experiments.
    • Strong ownership and accountability
    • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate issues / risks to a diverse multifunctional audience
    • 2+ years of experience leading manufacturing making/filling trials and transferring technical information from R&D to Production sites will be ideal
    • 2+ years' experience of batching work for process development and/or issue resolution and problem solving would be an advantage
    • Familiarity with 'Transformation Understanding', 'Basis for Scale up' and/or Process Qualification would be an advantage.
    • Understanding and experience of the practical application of Stage-Gate Processes (from Design to Execution).
    • Experience in operating Bench and/or Pilot Plant equipment with minimal supervision would be an advantage
    • Ability to troubleshoot issues in production and suggest actionable, practical solutions to Manufacturing would be an advantage

Functional / Technical Skills:

    • Working knowledge of Batching - Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE).
    • Lean tools (FMEA, TFS, Standard work, value stream mapping,
    • Intermediate to advanced level computer skills (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Access, drawing so ware, SAP).
