The Pines at Shrub Oak is 24-bed, coeducational, interim placement for students on the autism spectrum who may need significant psychiatric support and stabilization before transitioning to a less restrictive environment. Student at the Pines receive psychiatric services in addition to the academic and life skills instruction in a safe, supportive environment with a 2:1 student to staff ratio.
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner plays a critical role to support the holistic well-being, care, and treatment of our students working in collaboration with The Pines leadership and staff; and reporting to the Director of The Pines. Having access to confidential information, discretion and independent judgement is required.
Essential Functions – Primary duties of the position
Prescribe, direct, or administer psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, and/or or behavioral disorders
Gather and maintain patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from the student, family members and/or other professionals
Design, implement, oversee and manage individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments
Collaborate with The Pine’s interdisciplinary co-lead teams, including Clinicians, Teachers, Nurses, OT, and Direct-Care Supervisors
Will work closely with other healthcare professionals as needed and required per Shrub Oak policies and practices to discuss treatment plans and progress as needed and required
Analyze and evaluate patient data or test findings to diagnose nature or extent of mental and/or physical disorders
Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to determine effectiveness of treatments or therapies and approaches
Meet with students to assess general physical, mental and emotional condition(s).
Advise or inform guardians, relatives, or significant others of student’s conditions or treatment.
Remain current of research, advances and related topics concerning mental, emotional, or behavioral states or disorders
Prepare reports summarizing patient diagnostic or care activities
Attend meetings, and serve on committees to promote, maintain and share learnings and progress in the field
Provide on-call psychiatric nursing support to manage crisis as needed/ scheduled
Handle any and all other additional responsibilities as needed and required
Experience, Qualifications:
Must have been a PMHNP (Psychiatric, Mental Health, Nurse Practitioner) having a graduate degree (Masters with an APRN i.e. Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – with certificate) or a doctorate degree in mental health nursing.
Must hold active licenses, and in good standing
Min 3 years’ experience working as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in pediatric/adult psychiatry required
Experience working with those on the autism spectrum or with developmental disabilities, strongly preferred
Experience handling complex medical, emotional and psychological situations with a holistic view toward achieving sustained improvement, well-being and regulation
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain solid relationships, and work cross-functionally with other disciplines and other areas of the school; team player with excellent problem-solving, decision-making skills and judgement
Superior interpersonal skills and consultative capabilities with an ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing to a varied client base, professionals, parents and professional groups
Professional and executive presence to speak in large and small groups to represent the school
Exhibit cultural awareness and sensitivity
Proactive ability to recognize issues/problems, and select an appropriate solution from among several, often quickly, given imminent and often, changing circumstances
Ability to work in a fast paced, high-volume environment, effectively juggling demands and shifting priorities
Computer proficiency and a working knowledge of Microsoft and other software, and ability to learn to work with our internal database management software provider

Work Environment: This job operates in a campus environment.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, use a phone and computer. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus, a keen listening skills.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a 12-month/full time position.
Salary: Starting150,000 per year
