This fully remote position requires up to 40 hours of work spread across specified dates. The ideal candidate will be technology-savvy, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite, and possess strong writing and communication skills appropriate for upper division undergraduate level, including familiarity with citation and research writing conventions. Candidates will also have experience working with upper division undergraduate either in teaching, advising, mentoring capacity, i.e. teaching and or research assistant or equivalent. Job Responsibilities July 2 (9:15 AM - 10:30 AM CST): Deliver a presentation at the graduate school admission offers seminar for the 2024 cohort. (refer to slides 14/15 from past year) (Note: this is essentially sharing your journey and tips for navigating your admission offer) July 15, 16, 17, and 19 (9:00 AM - 1:00 PM CST): Act as a core member of the McNair Team, assisting with poster and presentation preparations for the upcoming UCLA National McNair Conference and UMN TRIO McNair Poster Symposium. Tasks include reviewing and providing feedback on research posters, helping scholars with their oral presentations, and ensuring all materials are finalized and approved by mentors. The days leading up to the 2024 UCLA National McNair Conference (7/24-27) and the Annual UMN TRIO McNair Poster Symposium (8/1) are crucial for the McNair summer research program. This phase plays a pivotal role in laying the foundation for graduate-level writing, coursework, and presentations. Scholars are simultaneously developing skills in communicating their research to a wide range of audiences, receiving and incorporating writing and design feedback for their research poster and oral presentation slide deck, and developing project management skills in a fast-paced environment that requires meeting set deadlines. This is a transformative time for scholars as in real-time they begin to realize just how far they've come in such a short time and watch their confidence increase. During these days you would be the point person for one of 4 groups simultaneously taking place. While students are in-person in a large modular seminar room, we would set you up to facilitate this remotely and you would have access to GChat with the McNair Team. July 24-26 (up to 10 hours): Assist the McNair Director with various project-based tasks including document management and preparation for the program's summer programming winddown. Flexibility in task completion provided it's concluded by 3:00 PM CST on July 26. Qualifications Required Qualifications Experience with Canvas or similar course management platforms. Strong socio-emotional skills to maintain a positive and productive work environment with staff, partners, and students while meeting set deadlines. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and handle a fast-paced environment. Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.
