Barr Engineering Technical Writing and Report Specialist - Mid Level (Hybrid) in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Job Description: Summary: The person in this position will provide communications and administrative support to project teams, project managers, and other company leaders to support both internal and external project efforts. Work assignments may include technical writing, editing, proofreading, and technical editing of reports and other project-related communications. The successful candidate for this position will demonstrate outstanding writing and editing skills, as well as strong organization, communication, and client-service skills. The person in this role will work closely with engineers, scientists, and business unit leaders across Barr offices and geographies. This is a full-time position with hours varying based on project and client needs. Applicants seeking both full-time and part-time work will be considered. Communications and administrative support tasks may include: Preparing content that is accessible and tailored to the needs of the target audience Researching technical concepts and make them easy to understand by the target audience Working with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of the objectives and audience Generating documents that follow organizational standards Providing and coordinating Quality Assurance and Quality Control for project documents Formatting, organizing, and producing electronic documents Developing visual presentation materials Coordinating content from multiple authors into cohesive documents supporting consistent objectives Minimum Qualifications: Five or more years of experience in a comparable position Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Strong writing and editing skills Strong technological acumen/curiosity with the ability to seek understanding independently prior to asking for help Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment, where multiple people will provide work direction Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks Strong oral and written communication skills, including above average grammar Strong listening skills Demonstrated attention to detail and task follow-through Strong client-service mentality and an attitude and desire to help project teams be successful Self-initiative and motivation with an emphasis on client service Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with colleagues and clients at all levels Ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities and build working relationships Ability to work with partial information, identify further data necessary to effectively complete tasks, and either prepare preliminary but incomplete work products or work with individuals to collect necessary data for the preparation of complete work products Flexible working style and willingness to occasionally modify personal schedule to help meet project deadlines Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in English, communications, or a related field Experience providing proofreading of technical reports Experience managing an intranet, intranet pages, and/or intranet content Advanced MS Office Suite skills Experience with Microsoft Office 365 platforms including SharePoint Online and MS Teams Working knowledge of graphic design and document design principles Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or Acrobat software Experience preparing visual presentation materials A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office.
