Senior Linux Administrator/Engineer BCforward is currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Linux Administrator/Engineer for an opportunity in Minneapolis, MN! Position Title: Senior Linux Administrator/Engineer Location: Minneapolis, MN Anticipated Start Date: 07/01/2023. Please note this is the target date and is subject to change. Expected Duration: 6+ Months Job Type: Contract to hire, Remote Pay Range: $52/hr - $65/hr Please note that actual compensation may vary within this range due to factors such as location, experience, and job responsibilities, and does not encompass additional non-standard compensation (e.g., benefits, paid time off, per diem, etc.). Job Description: BC forward is looking for a Senior Linux Administrator/Engineer this position will be a member of a small team who is responsible for managing and securing - in collaboration with product owners - Linux servers across multiple public and private clouds. The position requires expertise in deploying and managing systems using more modern tools and techniques. This includes but is not limited to Terraform to deploy new systems, Packer to build OS images, Chef for configuration management, and orchestrating all tools with pipelines and other integrations. It also requires expertise with Linux file systems, various implementations of NFS - including AWS EFS, system hardening, system performance, and authoring documentation. Key Responsibilities: 1. Infrastructure Automation with Terraform: a. Utilize Terraform modules for provisioning and managing infrastructure efficiently. b. Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles to ensure reproducibility and scalability. 2. OS Configuration Management Using Chef: c. Automate server configurations using Chef to enforce standardization. d. Develop and maintain Chef cookbooks and recipes for system configurations. 3. OS-Level Permission Management: e. Manage and audit OS-level permissions, ensuring secure access control. f. Implement and maintain access control policies and procedures. 4. OS Patching and Licensing Management: g. Manage the lifecycle of operating system updates and patches. h. Ensure software licensing compliance across all server environments. 5. EFS and Linux File Serving: i. Configure and manage AWS Elastic File Systems (EFS) and Linux-based file serving solutions. j. Ensure data storage solutions are scalable, secure, and performant. 6. Image Management Using Packer: k. Create, manage, and deploy optimized server images using Packer. l. Maintain image repositories, ensuring they meet standards for security and efficiency. Technical Skills: - Proven experience with SUSE Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) administration. - Strong understanding of image management using Packer. - Experience with OS patching and licensing management. - Familiarity with configuring and managing EFS and Linux file serving solutions. - Proficiency in Chef for configuration management and Terraform for infrastructure automation. - In-depth knowledge of OS-level permissions and security practices. - Ability to script in languages such as Bash or Python for automation purposes. Strong python skills preferred. - Experience with pipelines, especially Azure DevOps, preferred. Soft Skills: - Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. - Strong communication skills, capable of effectively documenting and explaining technical details. - Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
