The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out quantitative data analysis on various ongoing projects including genome-wide association studies, polygenic score predictions, and several experimental laboratory paradigms concerning spatial reasoning and numerical cognition. Additional duties include taking a lead role overseeing undergraduate research assistants, maintaining lab space and equipment, delivering timelines, data acquisition, and IRB protocols, and other administrative tasks. Position funded through 8/31/26. Responsibilities Research Design (25%) Design, program, and oversee data collection from laboratory experimental paradigms. As the supervisor has little experience in many of these activities (e.g., programming a psychology experiment in E-Prime, collecting data for studies of manual skills as in Lykken, Hershberger, & Bouchard, 1996), substantial independence will be required of the researcher. Research Analysis Activities (25%) Lead, oversee and assist with quantitative and statistical data analysis, including the application of various behavioral-genetic and cognitive frameworks (e.g. GWAS, diffusion modeling). Although the researcher will work with skilled Ph.D. students and the supervisor, the main funding source is intended in part for the development of scientists who will eventually be independent; the researcher must therefore demonstrate substantial capacity to work with genetic data and experimental-psychology data independently. Research Dissemination (25%) Develop academic manuscripts and presentations. Attend conferences and present research findings. Assume a lead role in preparing research proposals, grant applications and IRB applications. Reviewing and synthesizing research literature; conducting critical reviews. Research Administration (25%) Management of project timelines and deliverables for research projects. Interview, oversee and train undergraduate research assistants. Attend lab meetings, take notes, and track tasks. Other administrative duties as needed. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Differential/Personality/Behavioral Genetic Psychology or closely related subfield. At least two years of postdoctoral research experience to be completed by the start of employment. Candidates must be able to demonstrate authorization to work in the United States at the University of Minnesota by the start date. Experience conducting research in differential psychology, including experimental paradigms from the subfields of attention and performance; experience conducting genome-wide association studies of complex traits, polygenic score construction, and similar molecular-genetic techniques; experience with classic behavior genetic data and paradigms (e.g., twin and adoption studies). Ability to program and troubleshoot computerized experiments (e.g., in E-Prime) and construct/maintain/repair apparatus. Ability to analyze and visualize data from such experiments, applying techniques such as resampling for statistical inference. Preferred Qualifications: Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by scientific publications. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Proven ability to problem solve and excellent interpersonal skills. Expertise in studying the nature and origins of cognitive ability.
