Other required duties will include quantitative and statistical analyses of electrophysiological, activity-dependent optical imaging and behavioral data from animal experiments (zebrafish) with the overall goal of understanding the development of spinal locomotor circuits in aquatic vertebrates. The position requires extensive research experience in molecular biology and in using vertebrate aquatic animal models to study the nervous system with demonstrated proficiency in: transposon-mediated transgenesis, electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. The position requires working closely with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students, and staff with a high degree of collegiality. The duties include presenting the results at research conferences and writing manuscripts for publication. The individual will also be expected to collaborate in writing research grants. Job Duties: 60% Cloning 30% Embryo microinjection 10% Fish husbandry Qualifications All required qualifications must be included in the application materials Required qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (e.g. neuroscience, engineering, or genetics) as well as four or more years as a postdoctoral fellow focused on the quantitative and statistical analyses of electrophysiological, imaging, and behavioral data. The individual must have excellent skills in performing spinal transections, whole-mount in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry, classical and Gateway cloning, embryo microinjection, and fish husbandry. Previous work in nervous system development and/or regeneration and familiarity with locomotor neural networks and relevant literature is a plus. Additional qualifications include demonstrated productivity in both first and co-authored publications and experience writing major research grants. The ability to work collegially with faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students and staff is considered essential. Experience working in locomotor systems is considered highly desirable, particularly involving vertebrates. About the Department Neuroscience is the scientific study of the nervous system.
