Schedule will be a mix of weekdays and weekend days. The building will be open seven days a week, 9am-7pm during the months of May-August, 9am-6pm during the months of September-October, and 9am-4pm November-April. JOB DESCRIPTION 100% Staff the Tashjian Bee and Pollinator Discovery Center * Provide exemplary customer service to all Arboretum visitors, members, staff and guests * Answer basic questions about pollinators, the Farm at the Arb, and the Arboretum using research-based information and direct them to more resources. * Enforce Arboretum and University policies in a professional and friendly manner * Remain visible to clients and staff and/or maintain radio communication * Improve the visitor perception of the Arboretum by keeping classrooms and displays clean and organized * Know and follow protocol for basic issues, first aid and emergencies in the building * Perform administrative and project support as assigned The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum has the following expectations of all employees in the areas of problem solving, initiative, planning/organizational skills, interpersonal skills, attendance/punctuality and orderliness. Employees are expected to: * Identify problems in a timely and efficient manner and offer practical solutions to problems whenever possible * Consider the effects of decisions made prior to making decision * Offer suggestions in ways to increase efficiency and productivity * Make appropriate decisions about when to act independently and when to consult with others * Use resources wisely, schedule work effectively * Share information in a courteous manner with other employees to ensure a knowledgeable, efficient, cohesive workforce * Provide information to visitors in a courteous and friendly manner * Offer help to coworkers when own workload permits * Arrive for work as scheduled so as to not disrupt, delay or cause additional work for coworkers * Give proper notification to supervisor of scheduled absences * Keep work area appropriately presentable to the public * Return shared equipment/supplies to proper storage area after use or at end of day in ready-to-use condition * Treat coworkers with respect and consideration Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or GED. Successful experience providing in-person positive customer service Successful experience working with computer software such as Microsoft office and Google applications, and a willingness to learn others used at the Arboretum Documented experience working as part of a team Available to work a year around flexible schedule including weekday and weekend shifts. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of one or more topics including pollinators, gardening, farming, and a willingness to continue learning about these topics About the Department The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is a community outreach unit of the University of Minnesota's College of Food, Agriculture and Natural Resource Sciences. The Arboretum is located west of Minneapolis/St Paul and its 1,200 acres traverse the municipalities of Chaska, Chanhassen and Victoria.
