Responsible for design, development, performance, and maintenance of the servers, operating systems, and related applications to ensure system integrity and to achieve optimum performance. Plans, designs, and implements systems process and policies. Conducts disaster analysis, planning, and implementation. Updates standard procedures for a variety of tasks such as installing, configuring, and maintaining systems. Maintains hardware and software inventory, including licenses. Recommends hardware replacement and plans new hardware implementation. Develops recovery procedures, scheduling and backups. Provides training and technical guidance to less experienced staff, and has authority to supervise student employees. Other duties and individual projects as assigned by team leads or manager. Instructional Technical Operations Support (25%) Works closely with faculty and students to recommend equipment and technology to assist them in their roles for instructional purposes. Maintains instructional server hardware and software inventory, including licenses. Technical Support (25%) Provides advanced operational support. Troubleshoots, tracks, and resolves system issues. Evaluates and follows through on issues and problems until resolved or escalated. Qualifications Required Qualifications BA/BS plus at least two years experience in the area of systems administrations Experience with current programming languages (e.g., Python). Ability to establish and maintain a respectful and trusting relationship with faculty, staff, and students. Ability to deal with ambiguity and effectively solve problems in a highly dynamic environment. Enthusiasm for troubleshooting advanced infrastructure issues. Preferred Qualifications Five years of Linux or systems administration experience. Experience with Ubuntu- and Red Hat derivatives. Expertise with backend infrastructure programming, automation, and resource management. Experience in a DevOps environment. Experience with Linux performance tuning. Experience with administration or orchestration software (e.g., Puppet, Foreman, etc). Experience with storage and filesystem backends (e.g., TrueNAS, Compellent, ZFS). Experience with virtualization systems (e.g., VMWare, Proxmox, etc). Experience with observability and monitoring systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, etc).
