Thrivent Financial Communication Strategist in Minneapolis, Minnesota

This individual contributor position assists with – and at times leads – communications consulting, strategy and plan development for divisional priorities that build a deeper understanding of organizational direction, affect culture change, enhance organizational reputation and tell the Thrivent story. The Communications Strategist is responsible for bringing business/professional communications acumen to working with organizational leaders to create communication strategies and develop, implement, manage and evaluate initiatives aimed at multiple audiences (corporate leaders and team members, members of the field organization, member volunteer leaders, key external stakeholders, media, etc.).

The position assists with managing various internal/external communications resources needed to drive specific initiatives; applies business, communications and change management best practices to achieve objectives; eagerly communicates with the workforce in a way that’s informational, influential and inspirational in addition to being able to work independently and as part of a team to produce desired outcomes.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as lead strategist or serves in key support role with various division priority projects, enterprise-level storytelling, “run-the-business” and organizational reputation communication initiatives. Continues to build relevant business-related knowledge and skills through internal and external sources.

  • Receives capacity within role to be flexible and assist as needed for our Enterprise Communications team across other business divisions and priority enterprise efforts.

  • Understands enterprise business objectives and strategies; can effectively offer and execute communications counseling and solutions that help achieve objectives; advocates for the creation of a client-centric culture; seeks opportunities to use communication to support changes in business transformation.

  • Is responsible for various resources to effectively plan, implement, manage and evaluate initiatives. Plans and implements multi-channel, multi-audience communications strategies, considering the specific needs/interests of the content senders and receivers (e.g., members of the field organization, corporate leaders and staff, chapter and member volunteer leaders, the media, etc.).

  • Provides support for content development on enterprise initiatives; writes/edits internal, field, chapter/member leader and media relations communications as necessary.

  • Understands and applies best practices from other divisions and work groups (and from outside the organization) to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of communications.

  • Develops trusted relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and works with various resources to plan and implement key enterprise communication initiatives working both independently of and on behalf of key business partners.

  • Understands and applies change management disciplines in the creation of communication plans.

  • Works in partnership with channel managers to ensure the distribution of timely and relevant communication supporting specific initiatives.

    QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

    Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing or related field required; or equivalent experience

  • Approximately 5-7 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations or marketing

  • Some experience in developing strategic, multi-channel communication programs, plans

  • Strong relationship management, interpersonal, influencing and networking skills

  • Well-developed writing, editing and communication management skills

  • Experience in community-oriented storytelling, conveying a company’s impact across multiple disciplines

  • Experience working with web-based collaboration applications and/or internal/external social media

Preferred:

  • Strategic ability – Understands the current state, develops a shared vision and is able to develop and drive strategies to move toward the vision.

  • Strong customer focus – The ability to manage multiple customer needs simultaneously.

  • Proven industry knowledge – Experience in financial services.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $81,887.00 - $110,789.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
