Xcel Energy Associate Cyber Security Analyst in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Position Summary

Associate Cyber Security Analyst is primarily responsible for supporting the 24x7x365 Enterprise Command Center in providing cyber security incident response and handling.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Analyze and respond to cyber security events from network and security devices including SIEM, firewalls, IDS/IPS antivirus, anti-virus and traffic analysis tools. Document actions in tickets to effectively communicate and track information with team members and internal customers. Handle investigations to resolve issues and follow documented escalation procedures following the 1/10/60 model

  • Document, follow and improve playbooks, policies, procedures, and best security practices.

  • Provide feedback to analyst and senior analysts to help improve tools and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of: Network security concepts & Information security best practices, TCP/IP networking, Unix / Linux operating systems and Windows logging & Active Directory.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field and/or at least 3 years of information security and/or networking experience.

  • Mid to advanced level understanding of information security concepts, attack vectors and defense-in-depth.

  • Ability to work an on-call rotation with other mid and senior team members for weekend/night/holiday escalations.

  • Participate in established incident response procedures.

  • Ability to work 24x7 operations (so 8- or 12-hour rotating shift schedule) so able to support day + night shift, holidays, weekends, etc.

  • Basic understanding of cyber landscape + typical threat vectors.

  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Incident response procedures and event triage experience.

  • One or more certifications in Security/Networking including Security+, GSEC, GCIA, GCIH, CISSP or other security specific vendor/product certifications.

  • Common ports and serviceIPv4 and IPv6 basic packet structure.

  • DNS resolution. Common malware strategies (recon, exploit, callback).

  • Experience working with ticketing systems (ex. Remedy, Service Now).

Non-Bargaining

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $69,700.00 to $99,100.00 per year
