The Department occasionally needs teaching specialists to teach courses that cannot be staffed by regular faculty members or graduate students. This search will establish a "pool" of teaching specialists if such openings occur during the 2024-25 academic year. Applicants may be selected from this pool on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year. For AY24-25, we are particularly seeking applications from those qualified to teach lab or discussion sections of some combination of the following courses: PSY 1001 Intro to Psychology; PSY 3001W Intro to Research Methods; PSY 3801 Intro to Psych Data Analysis; and/or PSY 3901/2/3W Capstone in Psychology or other courses. The candidate should be open to teaching both on campus and online courses. We also seek a candidate with demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring a diverse student population. The position will be made at 50% time (two lab/discussion sections) or 100% time (four lab/discussion sections) for the Fall 2024 semester (August 26, 2024 - January 8, 2025) or Spring 2025 semester (January 9 - May 25, 2025) or both, and will be made at the rank of Teaching Specialist (job code 9754). Continued employment beyond this period is contingent on satisfactory performance, curricular and programmatic need, and continued availability of funding for the position. This appointment is subject to the terms and conditions of the Administrative Policy on Academic Appointments with Teaching Functions, and other applicable University policies. Responsibilities: Provide classroom teaching for lab/discussion sections from Psychology courses, which may include: Psy 1001 Introduction to Psychology; Psy 3001W Introduction to Research Methods; Psy 3801 Introduction to Psychological Data Analysis; Psy 3901W/3902W/3903W Capstone in Psychology. Attend weekly TA training meetings, graduate student coursework and provide feedback, Participate in minor course development, as needed Proctor exams Respond in a timely fashion to student issues and Department requests. Resolve student and classroom issues in consultation with the course instructor and Department. Performance standards: Positive evaluations from students and lead instructor(s) of course. Demonstration of commitment to quality teaching and professional development. Effective handling and resolution of student and classroom challenges. Qualifications Required Qualifications: BA or BS in Psychology or related field. Masters degree is normally required. The appointee is not required to have the same credentials expected for faculty, but must have demonstrated competence to teach the course material. Professional and/or teaching experience related to assigned instructional responsibilities may be required. Strong communication and presentation skills and demonstrated cultural competence Expertise with psychological concepts applicable to assigned course(s). Preferred Qualifications: Prior teaching or research experience in psychology or a related field. Experience with Canvas and online learning. Demonstrated commitment to teaching a diverse student population.
