MILWAUKEE METROPOLITAN SEWERAGE System Monitoring Data Analyst in MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin

MMSD is seeking qualified candidates for the position of System Monitoring Data Analyst in the Water Quality Protection Division. Reporting to the Conveyance Systems Data Supervisor, you will ensure the timely processing of environmental monitoring data from various network databases. You will manage and support data integrity for conveyance and water reclamation facility (WRF) initiatives. You also will oversee the collection and analysis of flow monitoring data to provide accurate information that is crucial for maintaining Wisconsin Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (WPDES) permit compliance, executing technical projects, and successful planning. *Essential Duties and Responsibilities *Ensure database systems and respective interfaces are processing and collecting data for flow monitoring, WRFs, and associated environmental data for MMSD programs and initiatives. Alert appropriate personnel regarding any missing or erroneous data and assist in its recovery. *Organize and maintain databases to ensure data integrity and work with the Information Technology Services Division on data warehousing strategies. *Oversee conveyance flow monitoring data collection and distribute maintenance requests to appropriate personnel to ensure functionality and minimize data loss. Maintain application functionality throughout the importing, quality assurance, and reporting processes. Interface with appropriate personnel to minimize down time and loss of data. *Participate in quality assurance of environmental monitoring data in support of MMSD programs or initiatives. Review data and notify the appropriate staff members of any suspected erroneous or missing data for proper documentation, revision, or re-analysis. Assist in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Wisconsin Department of *Natural Resources regulatory reporting processes. *Provide complete, timely, and quality assured data requests. Follow-up with data requestors to ensure that the data has been received and answer any questions the requestor may have about the data. *Perform daily tasks related to conveyance system performance and environmental data sets, including flow monitoring, WRF, and weather station data. *Provide process improvements that promote the automation of data collection, quality assurance, and documentation. *Act as a technical resource for report development in HACH WIMS, Power BI, R, and other graphing/reporting software. Support users of other System Monitoring *Department applications and databases. *Perform MMSD data retention activities according to MMSD policies and procedures. *Assist in keeping all SOP\'s current. *Complete special projects as assigned. Marginal job duties: Travel to remote facilities to train personnel in new database/software applications. Accompany field crews to observe monitoring and data collection techniques to better understand field procedures and involvement. ***** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: *Bachelor of Science degree in environmental sciences, computer science, data science, or civil/environmental engineering. *Two to three years of job-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. *Knowledge of data collection processes, databases, and data analysis techniques. *Working knowledge of flow monitoring and the operation of sanitary sewer, combined sewer, and stormwater collection systems. *Micro oft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and Access) experience required. *Proficiency in GIS, SQL, Power BI, R, and/or related software preferred. Supplemental Information Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee works predominantly in an office environment and is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Requires the use of safety glasses, hard hat, safety vest, and safety shoes as dictated by the location work is being performed.
