Howmet Aerospace Forging Operations Manager in Midway, Georgia

Our Savannah Operations is a heavy industrial Forging manufacturing plant located in Midway, Georgia, employs approximately 200 people and is poised for growth!

We are looking for a process improvement and goal-oriented Forging Operations Manager to lead the Conventional and ISO thermal forging department.

JOB SUMMARY

The Forging Operations Manager is required to lead the day-to-day operations for Conventional and ISO Forge at the Savannah Operations. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and leading a team of Supervisors, Operators, and interfacing with other departments to drive problem resolution, process improvement, and proactive equipment maintenance. This position will also require passion for executing to a plan and a drive for achieving results.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Production of forgings in accordance with customer-approved processes.

  • Develop and lead a team capable of sustained operational success.

  • Install an environment of empowerment and accountability.

  • Drive a culture of safety, continuous improvement and ownership.

  • Interprets company policies and procedures for employees and enforces consistency

  • and sustainability.

  • Develops and implements measures to improve forging operations, equipment performance, and quality of product.

  • Ensuring documentation of deviations if they occur, and participates in root cause / corrective actions as needed.

  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists team members in solving work problems.

  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate direct reports and team members to achieve work goals.

  • Collaborates with other managers to coordinate activities of individual departments.

  • Adheres to and promotes all company safety rules and requirements and attends required training and/or meetings.

  • Must have an understanding and knowledge of company procedures and work Instructions.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Interpret graphs and analyze temperature data.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office to include Excel required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS

Ability to operate a forklift and man lift to approved O.S.H.A. standards.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, cold, heat, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution

  • 3 years of management/supervision or experience leading teams or projects in a manufacturing environment

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card Holder), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • 1+ years of proven track record of success in leading multiple process improvement projects within a manufacturing environment

  • 1+ years of experience in forge manufacturing
