Summary This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Eastern Oklahoma Region in Miami, Oklahoma. NOTE: TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED. ANY RELOCATION EXPENSES ASSOCIATED WITH REPORTING FOR DUTY WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE SELECTED EMPLOYEE. Responsibilities Incumbent is responsible for providing assistance with all aspects of Court administration in discharging all court functions and procedures for the day-to-day operations of the CFR Court. Responsible for filing of all court documents received for action in the court, consisting of formal complaints, petitions, answers, motions and other pleadings and documents for proceedings before the court. Maintains court documents/records of all court proceedings. Encodes cases into the data base software system. Attends court hearings, takes, and maintains recorded and written court minutes of court proceedings, maintaining all books of recordings, tapes of court sessions and records of testimony filed with the court. Prepares court room and assists magistrate in all court sessions, making necessary facility accommodations, regulations and policies affecting the operation of the court and tribes within the Region. Maintains court calendar and scheduling of cases for hearings and assembles and arranges case files and documents for hearing and court appearances. Serves as the Court of Clerk for the Court of Indian Appeals. Records and processes all appeals received for action. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions, GS-0986). GS-5: 1 year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector), including assisting with filing of court documents, maintaining documents and court records and distributing documents; encoding cases into database system, maintaining court calendar, scheduling of court cases, receiving calls and visitors, providing assistance as appropriate, collection of filing fees, serving as a notary public. OR 4 years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field at an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. (One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.) GS-6: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sector), including assisting with filing of court documents, analyzing, reviewing, and preparing court documents through in-depth research of legal materials; reviewing and accepting legal documents for correct conformity and timeliness, annotating files and recording for receipt; maintaining court records and distributing documents; encoding cases into database system, maintaining court calendar, scheduling of court cases, receiving calls and visitors, providing assistance as appropriate, collection of filing fees, serving as a notary public. GS-7: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either he public or private sector), including providing assistance to a Court of Indian Offenses, reviewing and encoding of legal documents and court cases in relation to filing of complaints, petitions, answers, motions, minutes, preparing courtroom and attending court hearings, maintaining of court documents/records of all court proceedings, including analyzing, reviewing, and preparing court documents through in-depth research of legal materials; reviewing and accepting legal documents for correct conformity and timeliness, annotating files and recording for receipt; taking and maintaining written court minutes; utilizing automated database software for encoding of cases; maintaining court calendar, scheduling of cases for hearing and preparing dockets; receiving calls and visitors, providing assistance as appropriate; preparing, certifying and mailing of court orders, judgments, notice of hearings, summons and other documents incidental to the functions of the court; accepting payments of filing fees, court costs, fines, and bonds; serving as a notary public; recording and processing of appeals. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and is typically in or related to the position to be filled.
