About the Role

The Team:

This role is with a small, high-powered team that is focused on innovation. Our job is to take amazing ideas and turn them into a reality for clients through hard work. Currently we spend most of our time working on Greenhouse Gas emissions in the Upstream and are blending skills in subject matter expertise, data analytics, and AI/ML.

Responsibilities and Impact:

  • Design and executing data organization, cleaning, and derivation initiatives.

  • Basic programming and automation of: New capabilities for additional derivations or custom calculations and Internal processes.

  • Apply AI and build machine learning models that provide insight and efficiency.

  • Leverage and grow oil and gas expertise.

  • Utilizing BI tools to draw conclusions and find insights.

  • Leverage oil and gas expertise to integrate datasets of differing types: Unstructured data, Spatial/GIS data, Relational databases

  • Assisting other IHS groups (particularly North American Plays and Basins team) to analyze complex data in real time and guide clients to innovating and insightful answers in real time.

What We’re Looking For:

The candidate should be a results-oriented professional with a strong understanding of upstream oil and gas databases and concepts . Ideal would be a candidate with advanced data visualization and manipulation skills, ability to learn quickly, and experience in application of data science/AI/ML.

This represents an excellent opportunity for such a person to:

  • 2+ years upstream oil and gas experience , with focus on North America.

  • Engage in cutting edge work on data organization and algorithmic generation of derived data ( R, Python ).

  • Work closely with small teams on a variety of projects.

  • Grow into a larger role to interface with clients in a storytelling capacity to convey compelling insights through the data.

  • Aptitude and experience with Tableau, Spotfire or other advanced visualization tools.

  • Strong motivation and ability to self-organize to achieve difficult targets under tight time constraints with high quality standards.

  • Working experience and aptitude with very large datasets and databases.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to basic AI/ML for automation and data derivation at scale

  • Expert knowledge of S&P well and production and technical datasets

  • Aptitude and experience with Tableau, Spotfire or other advanced visualization tools.
